Personally I’m devoted to fighting disinformation and related post-truth ills as a co-founder of the Clarity Foundation.

Professionally I’m focused on zero-carbon energy solutions involving uranium (nuclear) and silver.

I’m currently CEO of Myriad Uranium, which is developing uranium projects in Wyoming, Arizona, and New Mexico, USA. I was a founder of East Africa-focused M2 Cobalt which sold to Jervois Global. Pre-2014 I served on the board of directors of Uzhuralzoloto, at the time Russia’s second-largest gold producer. But then Russia invaded Crimea and eastern Ukraine and that role was put paid to.

In early December 2023, in connection with COP28, the Sapporo 5 (U.S., Canada, Japan, UK, France) and 17 other countries pledged to triple nuclear power output by 2050 to help drastically reduce carbon emissions in order to fight global warming. Since then, it has become clear that to support data and AI baseload requirements, reactor fleets must grow even faster.

Europe’s green parties, founded on anti-nuclear principles, are now “pro-nuclear”. The US government is now fully behind domestic nuclear. If you’re in the business, it’s fascinating times. Uranium spot prices nearly tripled in two years but as of early 2025 have given back some of those gains. The long term contracting price keeps rising which, we’ve now decided because it’s higher, is the more important price to watch.

Back to disinformation and post-truth. To me, the big threat globally which underlies our current plight and threatens humanity’s ability to cooperate and face reality head-on, is post-truth. It needs to be resisted, shamed, and dustbinned. I especially loathe what one might call “developing country autocrat support providers.” They’re the worst. And there’s lots of competition for worst. Across Africa especially, this network, often Russia-supported, is at work causing misery. The annihilation of USAID is closely connected to Russia’s African dictator support and the disruption of western liberal democracies.

In late March 2025, Erdogan locked up his rival the mayor of Istanbul and X has locally blocked posts about it. Thousands of Turkish students languish in prison. This blocking by X is an important kind of autocrat support, which we see in other hybrid democracies.

Musk and X colourfully and tragically illustrate the iron rule that those who advocate absolute free speech usually mean they want freedom to spread their own disinformation and suppress professional journalism and the collection and dissemination of objective facts. They (the Musks of this world) quickly and shamefully cave to autocrats who require infospace censorship in their own contexts.

As I mention above, I co-founded and help lead the Clarity Foundation, a Canadian charity. We have already received significant coverage in the top-level science journal Nature. My co-founder Dr. David Sweet participated in the 2023 Nobel Prize Summit on Misinformation in Washington, DC.

Philosophically, I think Rawls’ Veil of Ignorance should guide policymaking. Roughly that means, if you’re governing, imagine you could be born disadvantaged into the polity you govern.
